The May FAC board and general meeting will be at Wolf High Technology Center, Indian River Community College in the Johnson Auditorium on Friday, May 12. The board meeting will be at 1pm followed by the general meeting at 2pm. Map.

On Friday, May 12, 2006 Dr. Ryan Wheeler, Florida State Archaeologist and Chief of
the Bureau of Archaeological Research, will present a free workshop on “Unmarked Human Burials Law,” from 9-11 am at the Wolf High Technology Center, Indian River Community College. Map.

Flagler Center (aka Civic Center) in downtown Stuart: The FAC Welcome Reception will be on Friday evening (May 12) from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Flagler Center (aka Civic Center) in downtown Stuart.
Carpooling is suggested; easy directions will be in your registration packets. Limited private bus transportation for 37 guests will be available on a first-come-first-served basis at registration. FAC will be presenting the Stewards of Heritage Awards, and a lovely evening on the St. Lucie River is planned. Following the Reception, it will be dinner and tours "on your own," giving you a chance to visit Historic Downtown Stuart’s fine restaurants and historic sites. This year the FAC’s John W. Griffin Award will provide funding for three proposals. Congratulations go to the following:
Bryan Tucker ($1000) for an isotopic study of human molars from the Harris Creek site, 8VO24, on Tick Island to provide information on mobility vs. sedentism during the Middle Archaic Period.
Asa Randall ($900) for radiocarbon dating of samples from 8VO215, the Hontoon Dead Creek Village site, to document the relationship between mounds and habitation spaces during the preceramic Mount Taylor and ceramic Orange periods.
Jon Endonino ($100) toward traveling to the Smithsonian to photograph C.B. Moore collections from the Thornhill Lakes Mounds and Midden (8VO58, 59, and 60).

The National Park Service is soliciting comments on how to improve its educational products and services offered by its historic preservation and cultural resource management programs. The comments are being requested by the new Heritage Education Services Office. They plan to develop a national heritage education plan and develop ways to improve cultural resources educational offerings". If you are interested, check the NPS web page.
