"Amendments to Chapter 267, Florida Statutes were filed in the Florida House as House Bill 1419 on March 15 and Senate Bill (2114). The Bill creates a Florida Historical Commission to assist the Division of Historical Resources in overseeing the state's cultural resources; eliminates general provisions regarding historic preservation boards of trustees and responsibilities of the Department of State with respect thereto; eliminates the Historic Pensacola Board of Trustees; provides powers and duties of the Division of Historical Resources; requires employment of a state archaeologist; requires employment of a state historic preservation officer and other personnel. If passed, the bill will become effective on January 1, 2002.
